The electrical scope of work includes a 21 kV power distribution system with (4) 3000 Amp substations. The emergency power distribution system includes (3) 1250 kW generators with provisions for a future 1250 kW. The generators are paralleled onto a 6000 Amp emergency power distribution switchboard which serves to keep the plant running under abnormal conditions. The plant has enough capacity for five printing presses. The facility incorporates state of the art lighting technology and is the first industrial facility in the State of California to achieve LEED Silver Certification.<\/p>\n
The $80-million dollar printing facility was completed after 15 months of construction to house the printing needs of the Bay Area’s primary daily newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle. This first-of-its-kind facility in the U.S. consists of a 97,275-sq-ft press hall and a 238,375-sq-ft mail room, as well as office space, high bay storage and mechanical equipment rooms.
