Costco Wholesale Corporation first opened their headquarters in the mid 90\u2019s in Issaquah, WA, an eastern suburb\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of Seattle\u00a0<\/span><\/span>bordered by the Sammamish Plateau and the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u201c<\/span>Issaquah Alps<\/span>\u201d<\/span>. Th<\/span>e \u201cIssaquah Alps<\/span>\u201d<\/span>, aptly named for the surrounding popular ridges that Seattle hikers frequent, provide beautiful views from the glass exterior of the new\u00a0<\/span>Costco Corporate Headquarters Expansion project<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>This campus expansion will allow the retailer giant to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>unite<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>employees from\u00a0<\/span><\/span>several\u00a0<\/span><\/span>satellite<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>offices nearby<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to one global headquarters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This project is one of the first high rise construction projects within the City of Issaquah. Spanning 625,000 square feet, this project is comprised of two 9 story Class A Office buildings with an elevated skybridge that crosses a public roadway to provide access to an adjacent parking structure. Below ground, an additional single level sub-grade parking structure is being completed. Prime Electric\u2019s scope is core & shell and tenant improvement (TI) with 111,000+ man hours planned for the initial build. Some notable features include site lighting to support an expansive exterior plaza, auto court, and creekside terrace; extensive kitchen and food service; large event auditorium; multiple exterior building terraces and glass enclosed walkways.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the electrical work, our Low Voltage team, Prime Technologies, was brought in to handle the\u00a0<\/span>low voltage scope across the project. Beyond the standard security cabling for CCTV and access control doors, fire alarm system, and AV infrastructure, Prime Technologies created a unique sound masking system. This system mitigates and suppresses sound in an open office environment using white noise. PRIME put in over 5,000 emitters, making it the largest sound masking system on the west coast.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Orchestrating the 35+\u00a0<\/span><\/span>members of the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>PRIME field team is no easy feat<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>when\u00a0<\/span><\/span>wor<\/span>k<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on both the TI and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>c<\/span>ore &\u00a0<\/span><\/span>s<\/span>hell\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is happening\u00a0<\/span><\/span>concurrently.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Jake O\u2019Dell, electrician at PRIME, has been instrumental in\u00a0<\/span><\/span>standardizing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the BIM process<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>He\u2019s the go-to person\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>managing the detailed drawings from the BIM team, coordinating with the prefab department\u00a0<\/span><\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>produce<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>each component<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>exactly to spec. Relaying this information to the installation crews with\u00a0<\/span><\/span>his<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>nearly two decades<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of knowledge in the field is key to making the drawings become reality<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as efficiently as possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Prime Electric has had a unique role in this expansion, working directly with Jackson Dean Construction and Costco\u2019s management team. At the weekly project meetings<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>PRIME and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>other\u00a0<\/span><\/span>stakeholders team up to find ways to innovate lighting, power, and low voltage scopes to craft the project to Costco\u2019s exact requirements. Collaboration is one of PRIME\u2019s core values, reflected in building these key relationships. The understanding established in the continued communication and sharing of ideas allows PRIME to create the best possible final product for the clients.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
